Warren Buffet on our increasing debt:

Our immediate problem is to get our country back on its feet and flourishing — “whatever it takes” still makes sense. Once recovery is gained, however, Congress must end the rise in the debt-to-G.D.P. ratio and keep our growth in obligations in line with our growth in resources.

Seth Godin on the 'long tale':

The long tale is the never-ending story you tell your prospects, your customers and your employees.

The hard part is getting a little bit of permission to start telling your tale. The overlooked part, the part that wastes all that permission, is that you forget to keep telling your story.

Market share is the wrong metric

John Gruber on Gmail's "mind share" (emphasis mine):

Just eked past AOL, still behind Hotmail and Yahoo Mail in total users. But, in terms of mindshare, Gmail utterly dominates. Many of my friends — technically knowledgeable, demanding email users — use and love Gmail. None of them use Hotmail or Yahoo Mail. Raw user count is the wrong metric; Gmail has already won.

Google is like Apple in this way. It starts by taking over the premium end of a market.

I always wonder what drives people to use anything *other* than Gmail anyway - Gmail is the best.

I would gladly pay $100+/yr for my Gmail account. It's worth it.

Jason Kilar, CEO of Hulu:

I joined the company, now Hulu, in June 2007. We’re in a nondescript single-story building in West Los Angeles. We wear a lot of jeans and flip-flops and we’re proud to wear those things.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for what Hulu has done. Nobody thought it would survive or amount to anything. Look at it now - it has replaced cable for some of my friends.

I just thought this was a telling quote. Good for them.
